Gillian Cornwell - Busy Mother’s
To help you with your article marketing, from time to time we will have a mini interview with some of the publishers who use The RepOZitory to get content for their websites. The first interview is with Gillian Cornwell from Busy Mothers.
What is Busy Mothers?
A parenting website designed to help parents get and stay organised.
What do you use free reprint articles for?
We use the articles as content for our site, discussion topics for our forums and sometimes starting points for our newsletter themes.
What sort of articles do you look for?
I look for articles on specific aspects of parenting such as toilet training or feeding the kids, and also light hearted articles on the ups and downs of being a mum.
When choosing articles from article directories like The RepOZitory, what do you look for in an article?
Articles need to be well written, easy to read and understand, relevant and focused and preferably not to long, our mums are busy!
Other than The RepOZitory, how else do you source articles?
We write articles ourselves, I use other sites such as Ladypens and if we read an interesting article we think our parents would be interested in we ask permission to use it (we have yet to be told no.)
Do you have any other comments/tips you would like to give about using free reprint articles in your business?
They provide you with a wealth of expertise and content you may not otherwise have access to. They also allow for differing points of view and different styles so the content in your newsletters or on your website is not all in the one ‘voice’.

It could be anything from how to use a cloth nappy to what is an ABN to tips on cleaning up after a party to… If your customers are asking, chances are others are too.
- News stories - these are a great source of ideas. The articles you write could be your expert take on the issue.
- Definitions - does your industry have a language of its own? Use this language as an article by explaining what things mean.
- Brainstorm - sit down and write any topic that comes in to your head related to your business, no idea is too silly, initially anyway. Once you have this list, go through and work out the ones that would make good articles.
These are just a few ideas, there are many more that can give you a shot of inspiration. Please share some ideas with us.
Can I edit free reprint articles?
This is another frequently asked question - can I edit free reprint articles? The general answer to this is No, free reprint articles must be published in their entirity with no changes. The only exception would be editing for language - for example, you may find a brilliant article, but they spell Mum as Mom. In general, most authors won’t mind if you change the spelling in that way, however it is always a good idea to email the author and ask first. As I said, most authors won’t mind, however you don’t want an author to come across the edited version of their article and get upset with you for these changes.
Web hosting ideas
If you run a web hosting business, there are many sorts of articles you can write:

- When to panic if things aren’t working
- If something isn’t working, what to look for before contacting your web host
Australian or US spelling?
This is another question that we are often asked - should I use Australian or US spelling when writing an article?
This really depends on your audience. If you are a writing for an Australian audience, use Australian spelling. If you are writing for an American audience, use American spelling. If you are submitting articles to article banks, check their guidelines and see what they prefer. For example, here at The RepOZitory, we only accept articles with Australian spelling.

Word count for articles
This is a question that comes up a lot - how many words should an article be? There is no definate answer to this, other than “how long is a piece of string?”
Some publishers prefer shorter articles, around 200 words, and others prefer longer, more in depth articles around 1000+ words. The best advice for free reprint articles is to have a number of articles in different lengths so publishers can choose the articles that suit them best.
If you are writing for a specific publication or website, ask the publisher their preferred length.
